This is supposedly a prequel to the David Loogan series, when David is living in upstate New York as David Malone, a home inspector. David encounters Jana Fletcher one night when her car hits a deer, and he ends up spending the next several nights with her -- just enough time for him to become completely enamored of her and for him to be a likely suspect in her murder. Mistrustful of the police detective in charge of the case, David follows lead to lead into Jana's very dark and frightening past.
