Made in the USA, by Billie Letts

Two children, 15-year-old Lutie and her 11-year-old brother, Fate, are suddenly homeless and adrift when the woman they had been living with (their father's former girlfriend) drops dead in Walmart.  Dodging Child Protective Services, they take off for Las Vegas in a stolen car to track down their deadbeat Dad.  Things do not go well, particularly for Lutie. Their situation improves, when their ever-present former-circus-performer/guardian angel offers them a surprising new life.  Be prepared to suspend disbelief.
