The Last Dragonslayer, by Jasper Fforde
The first in the Dragonslayer series, Fforde's novels for young adult readers, The Last Dragonslayer has a lot of charm and humor, and a strong moral compass. Even though those are qualities shared by all of Fforde's books, it is unlike any other of his series, and in some ways more accessible. Jennifer Strange, formerly a foundling raised by the Blessed Sisterhood of the Lobster, currently the manager of Kazam, and reluctantly the last Dragonslayer, juggles her multiple responsibilities in order to keep magic in the world.
