Fallen, by Karin Slaughter

I'd forgotten how very good Slaughter is, and how much I like her characters, Will Trent and his partner Faith Mitchell of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Dr. Sara Linton, the sometimes coroner.  Here Faith's mother Evelyn is abducted by some very nasty people, and rumors about the dark cloud under which she left the police department resurface.  Will and Faith's boss Amanda and her crew of gray-haired biddies are quite funny, but Slaughter is never afraid to go creepy, grisly, and dark. The audio version is also quite good, even for a 2nd read.
