You can't beat Robotham: a fabulous cast of characters who each offers something vital to the mix, and a complex and compelling storyline. Psychologist Joe O'Loughlin; his soon-to-be-ex-wife, Julianne; and his slowly recovering daughter, Charlie, make my heart ache. PI Vincent Ruiz and DCI Ronnie Kray add some lightness, humor and irreverence to the tone of the book. The bad guys are horribly, creepily bad, and the interweaving of the several plots might be far fetched, but didn't seem so at the time.
Ok -- like the cover, like the title. Not liking "creepy" or the psychologist -- I am being too Bones-y?
ReplyDeleteHis being a psychologist is pretty key to the plot, so it's not just descriptive. Bones would not approve. I don't know if you would like it -- seriously creepy in many sections. Check out one of the introductory epigrams:

Loved this! Story kept me interested all the way through. Having worked for a few years with someone with Parkinson's, I found his descriptions of the syndrome and its frustrations for Joe accurate. I also liked reading that Joe could be petty. Dessert, anyone? Is this man capable of writing a bad book???
