Like Drown, this book's center is Yunior, and his never precisely happy relationships with his brother, Rafa, mother, stranger-father, and the host of women whom he loses.  Funny, sad, high-energy and using a mash-up of languages and vernaculars to portray Yunior's strangeness in the strange lands of New York, Boston, academia, and women.  Lots of Yunior's experiences mirror Diaz's own.
