The DCI Monika Paniatowski series is about as solid as you can get. Well written, fraught with tension, laevened with a bit of police squad humor. Paniatowski is in charge of investigating the murder of a teenage girl the same age as her daughter, while her former lover and current boss is out of town looking into the circumstances of the suicide of an imprisoned rapist.
