Call the Midwife, by Jennifer Worth

I found this book both entertaining and informative.  The memoirs of a midwife in the 1950s in London's East End, it tells about the nuns she was training with, some of her patients, and a bit of her non-work life.  The living conditions of the poor were kind of appalling, some of the medical practices seemed antiquated, but some of medicine's advances since then don't seem like steps in the right direction.  She's written other books and I might try to find them.
