Valley of Ashes, by Cornelia Read

I love Read, how much of herself she puts in her novels, how willing to make her main character somebody you want to kick, how funny her take on life and relationships can be.  Madeline Dare is living in Boulter, with her intrepid spouse, Dean, and her two one-year-old daughters, India and Parrish. She somehow let her driver's license lapse and so is doubly trapped in this mountain town, and yet finds new friends; a writing job that is supposed to stop at reviewing restaurants, but doesn't; and on a related note, a mystery to solve.
