Hand in the Glove, by Rex Stout

This is Rex Stout's one Dol Bonner mystery, though she appears in three Nero Wolfe stories as well.  Dol and her chum Sylvia are just starting the Bonner Agency, when Sylvia's guardian, P.L. Storrs threatens to continue to love her if she doesn't cut all ties with the agency.  Oddly, at the same time he hires Dol to get the goods on a New Age charlatan who is milking his wife for a small fortune.  Shortly there after an odd assortment of society members show up at Storrs's country house in Connecticut for their own purposes and not surprisingly, somebody dies.
