The Ranger, by Ace Atkins
Army Ranger, Quinn Colson, comes back to his rural Mississippi hometown for his uncle's funeral, and finds more than a few things amiss. Turns out that Quinn's uncle, the local sheriff, is supposed to have committed suicide, his land has a lien against it by a very underhanded character, Quinn's sister has dropped her young son off with Quinn's mother and has gone missing, and meth labs and drug dealers are overrunning the county. Chief Deputy Lillie recruits Quinn to help her find out if Hemp truly did commit suicide, and if so, why, and assorted other law enforcement tasks for which a man whose t-shirt reads "Jump out of plans and shoot people. What do you do for a living?" comes in handy.
