The Lost Ones, by Ace Atkins

It's been a while since The Ranger, and Quinn Colson has left the army and become Sheriff of Tibbehah County, Mississippi.  He is called to the hospital to investigate a case of child abuse, and finds the child's home abandoned and 13 empty cribs telling a frightening tale.  The human traffickers have some link to a Mexican drug and gun-running cartel, and Colson and his deputy Lillie Virgil must join forces with a red-headed ATF agent to get to the bottom of the overlapping crimes.  I like Atkins characters and sense of place.
