The Girl Next Door, by Brad Parks

Parks is smart and funny and he tells a good story that makes you feel like you're getting the inside scoop on the newspaper business.  Here Carter Ross starts by trying to write a touching little article to honor a hard-working, girl-next-door paper deliverer who was killed in a hit-and-run accident, and ends up putting his job and his life in jeopardy.  Parks has gotten more restrained in his use of the gay Cuban reporter and the biological-clock driven editor as comic elements, which makes me like him even more.

  1. This is the first Parks I've read and I love his breezy style! This is a nice, fast, enjoyable read with a good mystery. And Lunky really grew on me. I kinda hope he's in the next one...
