Major Ernest Pettigrew is a widower and former school teacher, and Mrs. Jasmina Ali is a widow who owns a shop in Edgecomb St. Mary where Major Pettigrew buys his tea. They become friends inspite of cultural differences, village gossips, and disapproving family members. It's a sweet story that manages to build quite a bit of tension, as the obstacles to their romance arise in increasingly threatening ways. Peter Altschuler did a fine job reading.
Oh, I liked this book! It's one you savor and take your time reading while sipping hot tea. Wasn't sure I'd enjoy it at the beginning because the Major was a bit of a cold fish but Jasmina's warm personality kept me turning the pages. I just had to find out what made them click.
