A Bad Day's Work, by Nora McFarland

Lilly Hawkins is a TV news shooter in California's central valley, who is having a streak of very bad luck.  Mics not working, taking home the wronger pager, reporters asking for other shooters.  She goes out to film to a crime scene and takes footage that nobody wants to see the air.  She's chased, beaten up, threatened and bribed.  She trusts no one, and no one seems to have her back.   It's a fast-moving story, with an interesting depth, as Lilly comes to realize that her lack of people skills are seriously getting in her way.  I'm looking forward to the next installment.
