Frozen Assets, by Quentin Bates

Anyone who thinks what Stieg Larsson did was easy should read Bates.  Confusing economic and political machinations in Iceland, endless characters with Icelandic names that all look the same, saved as much as possible by a female protagonist who is pretty easy to care about.  Larsson made his books compelling reading, Bates's first effort is like pulling teeth to plow through.  Without Gunna the Cop, sardonic, overweight single mother policing in a teeny Icelandic town, I wouldn't have made it through.
