Savage Season, by Joe R. Lansdale

This is the first of the Hap and Leonard series.  Hap went to prison for dodging the draft, Leonard is a Vietnam War vet, Hap is white, Leonard is black, Hap is straight, Leonard is gay.  They're employed as agricultural workers in the Texas rose fields, and naturally they're best friends.  Reviewers called it hilarious, and though Leonard had some funny lines, hilarious might be a bit of a stretch.  It's a pretty cynical answer to "what happened to the sixties?", with quite a bit of blood and betrayal.
