Dinosaur Hunter, by Homer Hickam
Overall, this isn't a very good book. The writing is prosaic, and the climax depended on a couple of the most irksome cliches in current fiction: the heartless Russian mobsters and the anti-aircraft gun wielding survivalists. But the parts of the narrative about professional and amateur dinosaur hunting were fascinating and had a ring of truth. According to the Acknowledgments, Hickam is an avid amateur dinosaur hunter, and he knows the science, technology, motivations, and addictive power of dinosaur hunting first hand. He probably couldn't have sold as many copies of the book as a memoir, and probably couldn't have gotten away with describing real people as venal or fanciful.
