The Secrets of Midwives, by Sally Hepworth

Neva, her mother Grace, and her grandmother Floss are all midwives, and indeed two of the three have big secrets. Neva has been keeping her pregnancy and the identity of her baby's father from her mother and grandmother, and Floss hasn't been honest about her reasons for coming to the US from England.  Mostly the book is about the relations among these women and with their significant others, but Hepworth also reflects on the changes in midwifery over the past several decades.
