The Rand family is in such deep trouble that this book was difficult to read. You feel from page one that the next page will bring nothing but deeper grief -- hearts, minds and promises will be broken. What is most desired is kept just out of reach.
The Last Kind Words showed the dark side of the Rand men;
The Last Whisper in the Dark reveals that the Rand women are much fiercer. I don't know where Piccirilli will take Terrier Rand, but I hope not to anywhere bleaker.
