The Good Dream, by Donna Van Liere

A sweet book about a 30-year old spinster in rural East Tennessee, who feeds and ultimately takes in a young, abused, malnurished and uneducated boy whose cleft palate has robbed him of speech.  The story is told from the perspectives of Ivorie, the boy, and Ivorie's brother Henry.  Ivorie begins the book depressed and at a loss following the death of her mother, going through the motions of her life.  She finds the strength, courage, and resolve to face real and bureaucratic demons in her love for the boy.
