The Hangman's Row Inquiry, by Ann Purser

This is the first in the Ivy Beasley series, mysteries set in the village of Barrington, featuring the 70ish Ivy and her younger cousin Dierdre, the mysterious Augustus Halfhide, and the ancient Roy Goodman.  Retired and bored, they come together to form the inquiry agency, Inquire Within, after a widely despised neighbor is murdered.  The mystery is overly complicated, but has a lot of heart when it comes to describing aging and all its physical, mental, and social manifestations.
