Jar City, by Arnaldur Indriðason

A solid police procedural, set in Reykjavík and the towns around it.  An old man is murdered and Inspector Erlendur and his team must seek the motives behind his death in his brutal past.  Erlendur's drug addict pregnant daughter is an interesting aside, as she tries to get clean for her child's sake.  Indriðason offers an interesting perspective on crime and policing in Iceland.  Apparently there's an Icelandic movie based on the book that could be pretty interesting, and an American version that will be placed in Louisiana.   Louisiana = Iceland?? Hmmm.
