Bones of Contention, by Jeanne Matthews

I loved this funny, engaging, fast-paced book. It is set in Northern Australia with a Southern gothic extended family as the main characters. Crimes and potential motives for murder abound -- drug and species smuggling, art and artifact forgery, assisted-suicide, and kidnapping. The chief protagonist, Dinah Pelerin, is a great creation, self-aware, self-deprecating, easily duped, but brave, loyal, and generally on the side of the angels. It's the beginning of a new series, so I'm hoping she'll show up again. Might have tainted my desire to see Australia with a little hesitation about insects, snakes, scary plants, and heat.
